Concrete Resurfacing for Worn Driveways, Patios, Pool Decks and Floors
A new wear surface for tired concrete, installed over a carefully prepared and repaired slab.

Quick answer
Concrete resurfacing places a new cement based wear layer over a worn, pitted or stained slab so it looks and performs like new. It works on sound concrete only. Turbo Surfacing repairs, cleans, resurfaces, textures and seals driveways, patios, pool decks and interior floors. We are licensed, bonded and insured.
Key takeaways
- Resurfacing renews sound slabs without replacement.
- Prep and repair decide how long it lasts.
- Texture controls traction.
- Sealers protect color and ease cleaning.
When concrete looks tired but is still solid, resurfacing can save you the cost and mess of replacement. A new wear layer hides scaling, stains and pitting, and it can add texture, color and pattern.
This page explains how resurfacing works, where it makes sense and where it does not.
What resurfacing is
Resurfacing is the application of a thin, polymer modified cement layer over existing concrete. Unlike a coating, it is cement based, so it breathes and handles sun and water well. Thickness ranges from a feathered skim to about a quarter inch or more.
The layer can be sprayed, troweled or squeegeed and finished smooth, textured or stamped.
Signs your concrete is a candidate
Good candidates have a solid base and surface problems such as scaling, light spalling, faded or stained surfaces, old patches and pitting. Cracks may be present if they are stable and repaired.
Poor candidates have heaving, severe settlement, widespread structural cracking or constant moisture from below. We tell you which category your slab belongs in after inspection.
Cleaning, profiling and repair
Prep determines success. We pressure wash, remove oil and loose material and grind or shot blast to create a profile. Cracks, spalls and holes are repaired before the new layer goes on.
Edges and transitions are detailed so the resurfaced area does not chip at steps or garage doors.
Driveways
Driveways take tires, oil, sun and rain. Resurfacing renews the surface and can add a broom or spray texture for traction. Heavier duty mixes handle vehicle loads, and sealers protect against stains.
We plan slopes and drainage so water leaves the surface and does not pool at the garage door.
Patios and walkways
Patios and walkways benefit from color and pattern. Stamped finishes imitate stone or brick, and spray knockdown textures provide a safe, non slip surface. Borders and accents add detail.
We match the new finish to nearby surfaces so the whole outdoor area looks planned and cohesive.
Pool decks
Pool decks need a cool, slip resistant surface. Light colors and a fine texture keep feet comfortable and reduce glare. Resurfacing also repairs scaling and tile line gaps.
We use products designed for chlorine and wet conditions, and we detail coping edges and drains carefully.
Interior floors
Inside, resurfacing can hide stains, patches and old adhesive. Microtoppings and smooth resurfacers create modern looks in homes, shops and offices.
We control dust, protect finishes and match the final sheen to the room. Sealers provide stain resistance and easy cleaning.
Color, texture and pattern
Color can be mixed in or applied as stain or dye. Textures range from smooth to heavy broom, and stamped patterns can mimic natural materials. We bring samples so you can compare in your light.
Simple finishes tend to age best. We help you pick a look that will still feel right years from now.
Sealing the new surface
A sealer protects color and reduces staining. Outdoors we use ultraviolet stable products with traction additives. Indoors we may use harder sealers where traffic is heavy.
Sealers wear first, so re sealing every few years keeps the surface performing.
Resurfacing compared with overlays, coatings and replacement
Overlays and resurfacers are close relatives, with resurfacers usually applied thinner and faster. Coatings like epoxy form a film on top and suit chemical or heavy duty areas. Replacement removes the slab entirely.
If the slab is sound, resurfacing is usually the most economical way to renew appearance.
Care and maintenance
Sweep and rinse regularly. Avoid harsh chemicals, strong acids and metal blades. Clean oil spills quickly. Re seal when the sheen dulls, and repair chips early.
With basic care, a resurfaced slab can look good for many years.
Step by step, from start to finish
A typical project starts with a site walk and a written scope. On installation day we protect plants, doors and nearby surfaces, then clean and profile the slab. Repairs go in first, followed by a bonding primer where the product calls for it.
The resurfacer is applied in one or more passes, textured or stamped while workable, then cured and sealed. We walk you through the finished surface and explain exactly when you can use it again.
What to expect with cracks
Resurfacing is not a magic eraser for cracks. Hairline and shrinkage cracks are repaired and usually stay hidden, while active cracks can reflect through over time. We rout and fill cracks with flexible material and cut control joints where the slab wants to move.
If your slab has a pattern of moving cracks, resurfacing alone will disappoint. We discuss that up front instead of promising a flawless result.
Southern California weather and timing
Hot, dry weather speeds up set time, and wind can dry the surface before it is finished. Cool, damp mornings slow curing. We schedule outdoor work for good conditions, mist or shade surfaces when needed and protect fresh work from irrigation and rain.
Sprinkler schedules matter too. We ask you to turn off nearby systems during the cure period.
Edges, steps and transitions
Edges and steps take the most abuse and are where resurfacing fails first when poorly done. We feather edges carefully, use stair nosing materials where appropriate and add texture to treads for traction.
Transitions to garage slabs, walkways and planters are detailed so the new layer does not catch on feet or wheels.
Associations, rentals and multi unit properties
Courtyards, walkways and pool areas in condos and apartments often look worn long before replacement is needed. Resurfacing refreshes common areas in a matter of days, with less noise and disruption than demolition. We coordinate with managers on notice to residents, closed areas and safe detours.
Color and texture samples go to the board or owner for approval before work starts, and we provide written scopes and proof of insurance. Phasing keeps entrances and parking available while each section cures.
Steps, stoops and small repairs
Not every job is a full driveway. Front steps, stoops, planter caps and short walkways can be resurfaced quickly and often at a modest scope. These small areas are highly visible, so a good finish makes a big difference to curb appeal.
We match new finishes to adjacent concrete where possible and use traction additives on treads so the surface stays safe in wet weather.
Questions to ask before you hire
Ask what thickness the product is meant for, how the slab will be prepared, how cracks are handled, what the sealer is and what happens if the surface fails early. A contractor who answers plainly, shows samples and writes the scope down is a good sign.
We are happy to answer all of these before you sign anything, and we put our answers in the written scope.
Getting an estimate
Our epoxy floor cost guide explains what moves the price. Send photos and rough dimensions through the free estimate form and we respond within 24 hours. Site walks are available the next day or later, depending on availability, and you receive a written scope after the visit.
What to know before you start
Retain photographs of exposed patches before the resurfacing coat conceals them. They help a future reviewer connect a visible finish change with the underlying repair location.
